What I'm Watching

Currently watching:

Naruto Shippuden - I'm at the Five Kage Summit arc. Not much else to say right now without getting into specific plot points about Madara, Itachi, and Pain. I'm enjoying it but the show is a massive undertaking and has a lot higher stakes and bigger consequences than the OG series. That can be exciting, but it's also intense.

My Hero (Rewatch) - This might actually be my favorite anime, not Haikyuu. It makes me so happy to watch or to listen to the soundtrack! I could easily plow through the rest of this (I'm just past the Overhaul arc in Season 4), but I'm trying to slow down so I can savor it.

Black Clover - I didn't expect to like this so much. It's really simple and by the numbers, but it's fun and entertaining. I am only 12 episodes in so far. I thought Yuno would be my favorite but he hasn't been in the show that much. I'd say Magna is my current favorite.

Recently finished:

Death Note (rewatch) - I had two main reasons for rewatching: 1) to see if Light is as big of an annoying shithead as I remember (he is but I don't hate him anymore) and 2) so the memes are even funnier. The show is ridiculous, full of exasperating "there's no way that would have happened" moments, but it's exciting to watch and easy to get into. It gets a little rough around L's death but they wrapped it up fairly well in my opinion.

JoJo's (Stone Ocean) - The ending of Part 6 of JoJo's is one of the worst I've ever seen in anime. Without discussing spoilers, I'll just say that I was highly upset by how they chose to handle the main conflict. It felt like it was supposed to be heartwarming but I found it to be obnoxious at best. Worst JoJo's part.

Slowly watching/not prioritizing:

Haijime no Ippo - I LOVED this show up until the Rookie Championship. It began to feel repetitive and uninspired. Before I was excited to see the mild-mannered Ippo find the resolve to defeat a difficult opponent. The boxing talk went over my head sometimes, but they'd explain  a little here and there. I had to google other things though (what is an in-fighter vs an out-fighter?). Ultimately, the suspense has been gone in Ippo's Rookie Championship matches. It feels too formulaic and dull right now. We will see what happens at the All-Japan Championship.

Black Butler - I'm having a really hard time getting into this one, 6 episodes in (just found out who Jack the Ripper is). The tone is all over the place, every character except Sebastian is either annoying, incompetent, or pointless. Ciel is insufferable--being nobility doesn't excuse him being utterly charmless and uninteresting. Sebastian is too perfect. He's good at everything with no effort and no explanation. To date, I know very little about his contract and I know nothing about what it means to be a demon in this world. Also, can I just say that Ciel and Sebastian's relationship makes me a little uncomfortable, which could be part of my hesitance.
