Anime Thoughts for What I'm Currently Watching
-The Disastrous Life of Saiki K - This one came out of nowhere. I watched the first two episodes and thought the MC was way too overpowered, even for a "gag anime" as it later refers to itself. I don't know what compelled me to pick it back up, but I did. It's hilarious, it's light and easy to watch, it's highly bingable, it's smart, and it features some of my favorite Japanese VAs.

-Mob Psycho 100 (Rewatch) - I picked this up again because I have to be honest, I was in peak shonen mood when I first watched it and felt it deserved more attention. Even though I knew it was anti-traditional shonen, like One Punch Man, I kept wanting fights. I wanted the point to be that Mob realizes it's okay to use his powers and be strong by standing up to others. I did watch all 3 seasons and still enjoyed it, especially his relationship with Regen, my favorite character, but I felt I was missing out on the greater themes of the show by wanting it to be the very thing it was positioning itself against. I also thought it would be interesting to watch it concurrent to Saiki K, despite the shows having totally different tones and styles. Even though they're both psychics, Mob and Kusou are completely different characters and I find their contrasts to be compelling.

Orb: On the Movements of the Earth - The first 17 episodes I watched were nearly perfect. A show that talked about serious things from history, but had plenty of emotion and sense of wonder. Sometimes the history in shows is portrayed as hopeless. But there's plenty of hope. I'd say that's one of the major themes of the show. Truth is the other. The pursuit of truth far surpasses any one character arc or feelings you might have toward any person or their actions. Which is why I will keep watching this show, even though Episode 18 made me rage quit in the middle of it. To avoid spoilers, I will just say that one of the characters destroys some property that does not belong to her and the people who asked repeatedly for her to give it back react...like nothing happened. They just are like "oh so you really want to join us." And the smug character is like "hah, I have the info you need so you can't kill me." And they don't. They just treat the girl normally and just start chatting casually. It's infuriating. No yelling. No acting cold toward her. I don't understand. It didn't play out like a normal interaction at all and it really frustrated me. But I'm not going to let that stop me from an otherwise brilliant show.
-JoJo's Bizarre Adventure - Okay, I'm certainly going to pick up some enemies for this take, but Part 4 is not doing it for me so far. I don't like the art style (color palette, mostly), Jotaro looks completely different, and I have some issues with the story. It's only 12 years later than Part 3, which doesn't feel like a significant amount of time, and only exists because JOSEPH JOESTAR MY PERFECT PRECIOUS JOJO had an affair. It truly feels out of character and just completely out of left field. I hope they explain more about this. I'm only on episode 7. I'm definitely not giving up. I've come this far. Considering how long it is, I hope that I come to enjoy it more as I go. So far, I do like Josuke's style and the fact that he's ready to just box with anyone at a moment's notice.

-Psycho-Pass - We are dead in the water on Season 2. After Season 1 and all the Sinners of the System episodes, I've struggled to get into Season 2. Even when trying to think of it as just world-building/lore-creating, it doesn't hit the same as Season 1. I was highly disappointed that the system wasn't dismantled or highly altered after Season 1. The same people are in power. It's business as usual. I was never interested in Sybil as a system to fight crime; I wanted to see Kogami take down Makishima and expose the Sybil system as something that needed to be reformed. Without that happening, I see Psycho-Pass going 1 of 2 routes for me: 1) I rewatch Season 1, enjoy it for what it is, then move on and enjoy the other characters and stories for what they are, or 2) let it sit on the "Continue Watching" queue indefinitely until I lose interest for a few years and then start from the beginning.

-Heaven Official's Blessing - I love how beautiful this show is. I love the chemistry between the two romantic leads (I found out after starting it that it's a romance basically). It's got an interesting story and a really cool world. The character design is quite attractive. However, that's where my praise ends. I'm stuck on Episode 10. Look, if it's going to have romance in it, I get they've gotta drag it out, but in the meantime, they could move the plot forward somehow. It's been all over the place. The original story, about the MC coming to Earth to gain followers as a god by building a temple, seems so far removed from what's actually going on at this point in the anime where I'm at. I might watch an episode here and there to see if it grabs me back in, but overall, this one is a miss for me.

-Naruto (OG, rewatch) - Yare, yare. I don't remember the Sasuke Recovery Arc being so tedious. While some moments are exciting, the entire plot drags on and comes to a complete stand-still sometimes. Then, you have Naruto's million Kurama-infused shadow clones ready to kick Bone-head's ass, only to have them just yell a bunch and try to attack one-by-one, then do a bunch of other random, ineffective shit (is this the same Naruto that fended off Gaara in Jinchuriki mode? The same one who learned Rasengan in less than a week?). But okay, Rock Lee shows up heroically and is going to kick Ninja Hisoka's ass (they're both voiced by Keith Silverstein). Only then HE has to be rescued by that smug ass Gaara. Okay Gaara isn't as smug and annoying as Temari and Kankuro. They are truly little shitheads about coming to their Leaf counterpart's aid. It's not even fair--the Sand shinobi are so much more equipped for those fights. It's not Shikamaru, Lee, or Kiba's fault. It's a little Naruto's fault because he's better than that, but the script decided he should just fuck about and do shit all. Anyway, we're slowly getting through it to get to Shippuden! Don't let this paragraph fool you. I really love Naruto, but it is flawed and a product of its time for sure, and that can get annoying.

-Great Teacher Onizuka (GTO) - Man, hyper fuck this anime. Talk about a series that could use a remake. Not just for the horrible art style and janky animation, but because of how downright criminally perverted it is. I think it might get better after the first episode but I don't know if I want to find out. I was trying really hard to convince myself all the ways that the perverted conversation and active attempts to date minors were all to serve the plot, but it's hard to talk yourself that much into a show like that when it also looks like garbage.
